iPhone Zero
Nothing in the way.
Thirty-six years of iPhone spent making the screen bigger. This one is spent making it disappear.

What we removed
- 01The bezel.Glass meets glass. There is no front and no back.
- 02The port.Power arrives through the air, or through your hand.
- 03The interface. At rest the display shows nothing at all. Not a wallpaper. Nothing.
Three removals. One device. Are you getting it?
Design
A single piece of glass that happens to think.
iPhone Zero is milled from one continuous sheet of laminated aluminosilicate, edge-sealed against a recycled titanium spine two-tenths of a millimetre wide. There is no seam to catch a fingernail, no tray, no grille. Held up to a window, the enclosure reads as a pane — until the light bends at the spine and gives it away.
We spent four years on the edge alone. At 2.1 mm the hand expects something fragile, so the chamfer had to convince the fingers of the opposite before the eyes had a chance to worry.
Lumina display
The last display that will ever need to improve.
At 120 pixels per degree, Lumina resolves finer detail than the retina can transmit. Past this point, more pixels are a marketing number, so we stopped. The panel refreshes between 1 and 240 Hz, holds 3,000 nits in direct sun, and falls to complete optical transparency when nothing on it needs you.1
Colour is measured against the room, not the lab. Ambient spectrometry samples the light you are standing in 480 times a second, so white stays white at noon, at dusk, and under the kitchen bulb you have been meaning to replace.
A37 Fusion
Every model runs here. Nothing leaves.
A37 Fusion carries 2.1 trillion transistors across a stacked photonic interposer, with a 64-core neural engine rated at 1,200 TOPS. It is enough to run a frontier-class model entirely on the device, which is the only reason we built it.
Your mail, your photographs, your health, the half-finished sentence you dictated in the car — all of it is reasoned over inside the glass in your hand and none of it is copied to a server, because there is no server in the path. Privacy is not a setting here. It is a consequence of where the silicon sits.
Design is how it works.Steve Jobs, 2003
One more thing.
We built a phone that wants less of your day.
Presence is the first feature we have ever shipped whose success metric goes down. It watches how often iPhone Zero interrupts you, and it works — quietly, on its own, without a dashboard to configure — to interrupt you less next week than it did this one. No streaks. No badges for restraint. It simply gets out of the way, and the glass goes clear, and you are in the room again.
Down from 68 on iPhone 17, measured across the beta over six weeks.
The rest are answered, batched, or dropped by the on-device model without ever reaching you.
Time the display spent fully transparent, holding nothing, asking for nothing.
A tool you reach for less is not a worse tool. It is a finished one.
